Identity and integrity

In 2013, the Association drew up the strategy document ‘Zingeving en Goed Onderwijs’ (The Search for Meaning and Good Education). In this document, the Catholic identity of the Association is provided with three basic concepts: good education, being a good person and living a good life. Our identity must be reflected in the behaviour of both teachers and students. Identity, or, in other word, ‘values-driven education’, transcends such a strategic policy document, as well as the timetable of a subject such as ‘Levensbeschouwing’ [‘World Views’]. The search for meaning in the form of values-driven education also comprises the subject matter of a lesson, the teacher's attitude towards the learner, the educational environment, the organisation of the school, the personnel policy, parental involvement, and so on. Values-driven education contributes to the self-development, and the social and civic education of students. This is not just a task of the ‘Levensbeschouwing’ teachers , but of everyone in the school. 

The OMO association has its own Integrity Code: ‘Goed handelen’ (‘Good conduct’). See appendix. This code is generally binding on all schools and for all governing bodies of the Association. The Integrity Code strengthens the Association’s ambitions set out in Roadmap 2023. The basic principle of all our actions is trust, which is a central theme of the text. The association’s strategy document on identity (‘Zingeving en Goed Onderwijs’) was taken as a starting point when drafting the Integrity Code.  The core of that strategy document on identity (good education/person/life) has been supplemented with ‘good conduct’ for the Integrity Code.

The association has deliberately not opted for standard rules, but for its own integrity code: a code that suits us and how we interact. Four basic principles for good conduct have been developed in the code:

  • Human dignity: every person counts
  • General well-being: no man is an island
  • Solidarity: caring for each other
  • Shared responsibility: contributing to the group effort
